Spoiler warning: this page gives away the ending of Drishyam: The Conclusion, the Hindi film with Ajay Devgn, released on 2 October 2026. The Malayalam Drishyam 3 with Mohanlal, released in May, follows a different story.

The short answer

Vijay wins. The court finds reasonable doubt, the Salgaonkar family is cleared, and the case is closed. Because they are acquitted of the crime, they cannot be tried for it again. Meera is left without justice.

What is the new case against Vijay?

SP Rajveer Singh Tomar (Jaideep Ahlawat) reopens the Sam Deshmukh case. The police now know Sam’s body was buried under the police station for a time. Their theory is that Vijay swapped it for another body before the DNA test in Drishyam 2. Prosecutor Indrajith Shetty (Prakash Raj) builds the case on two witnesses: Raghu, a guard at the medical college, and Savio, a church grave digger. He also uses the voice tapes the undercover officers recorded in the last film.

How does Vijay win?

According to Esquire India’s ending explainer:

  • The witnesses split. Savio takes back his statement. Raghu sticks to his.
  • The tapes help Vijay. Recordings from the Salgaonkar house on 23 July 2021, the night of the supposed swap, have Vijay’s voice on them, placing him at home.
  • The grave is not empty. The case comes down to whether Christopher Pinto’s grave was emptied for the swap. When police dig it up they find a skeleton. It is a realistic fake that Vijay had a prop artist make.
  • The church stops the test. Vijay, disguised as a nun, spreads word that the church will be torn down. The churchgoers, distrusting the authorities, stop the remains from being taken away for testing.

The Sunday Guardian reads the ending the same way: Vijay lets the prosecution bring its strongest case so it can be tested and beaten, and the acquittal protects the family from being tried again.

What does the last scene mean?

Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) is left with the film’s last word: he is a hero even though he is wrong, and they are the villains even though they are right. It sums up the whole series. The audience has cheered a man covering up a death, and the grieving mother has become the antagonist.

Is there a Drishyam 4?

Not in Hindi, as far as anyone knows. The title calls this The Conclusion, and Esquire India expects Ajay Devgn not to return. The Malayalam series is reported to be getting a fourth film.
