Spoiler warning: this page gives away the ending of Drishyam 2 (2022), the Hindi film with Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Akshaye Khanna.
The short answer
The police dig up a skeleton under the police station, but the DNA does not match Sam. Before the test, Vijay had swapped Sam’s remains for another body’s. The judge grants him bail for lack of evidence and tells IG Tarun Ahlawat to drop the case.
Why did Vijay confess?
To protect his family. When the police close in on his daughter Anju, Vijay confesses to killing Sam himself. His lawyer then argues that the police built their case from the plot of a novel called Drishyam.
Who is Murad Ali?
A screenwriter, played by Saurabh Shukla. Vijay had been working with him on a film script. Murad explains Vijay’s “alternate climax”: the hero gets hold of another body, keeps it for years, and swaps it in before the DNA test. That is exactly what Vijay did. Vijay’s story was also published as the novel Drishyam under Murad’s name, which is how the defence could show that the police’s theory came from a book.
What happens at the end?
Vijay arranges, without giving his name, for Sam’s cremated remains to reach his parents. Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) immerses them and asks Meera (Tabu) to let go of her anger. Vijay watches from a distance and leaves.
Does the story continue?
Yes. Drishyam: The Conclusion (2 October 2026) reopens the body swap. Read how it ends.
