Shershaah Movie Review

Ultimately, Shershaah plays it too safe. The film doesnt have the daring of its subject. But Vikram Batras story is so stirring that it rises above this.

Patriotism is rarely subtle in reality, and almost never onscreen. The makers of Shershaah must show that, even as a schoolboy, Vikram Batra loved his country and wanted to serve in the army.

This is the meatiest role of Sidharth Malhotra's career and the man sure enough gives it his all. There's charm, swagger, warmth, empathy, verve, authority -- a lively portrait of a lion, a legend, applauds Sukanya Verma.

Restraint in war dramas may seem like an oxymoron at all times, yet in these challenging times, this team has shown that it is possible.

Mercifully, Shershaah does not resort to chest-thumping and flag-waving. It celebrates an intrepid soldier. The hero isn’t, however, given to either superficial swagger or bellicose bravado.

If you are a movie buff, you may often find yourself poised in a space between the real and the reel, wherein you don’t just see life getting reflected on screen but, quite as often, apprehend reality through the prism of films.
