The film (remake of Prabhudheva’s debut directorial Telugu film) isn’t ripe with any newness – in story or direction.

Prabhu Deva mixes these yesteryear ingredients to dish out a formulaic film with melodious tunes and some enjoyable light moments.

On the whole, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is an entertainer all the way. The enjoyable drama, especially in the second half, and the emotional undercurrent make it a wonderful fare for the entire family and for all age groups.

the movie is acutely self-aware of what it’s aspiring for. There’s not an iota of realism or truth to be found. There’s no substitute for being original. And RV is merely a substitute for other once-upon-a-time original films.
