Spoiler warning: this page gives away the ending of Kantara: A Legend, Chapter 1 (2 October 2025), Rishab Shetty’s prequel.
The short answer
Princess Kanakavathi turns out to be the real enemy. In the final battle, the goddess Chavundi possesses Berme and kills both Kanakavathi and King Rajashekhara. Berme then disappears into the sacred well, the same place where Shiva’s father vanishes in the 2022 Kantara.
Who is the real villain?
Kanakavathi (Rukmini Vasanth). The kingdom of Bangra had allied with the Kadapa tribe to draw on the Daivas’ power. She casts a seal that stops the Daivas from stepping in, and performs a ritual with the Kadapa leader so that her father, King Rajashekhara (Jayaram), becomes strong enough to kill Berme.
What happens in the final battle?
- Berme leads his tribe against Bangra. After sunset, the possessed Rajashekhara cuts through the battlefield.
- Mayakara tells Berme to go to the well where he was found as a child. There he meets a Shivalinga and the Brahma-Rakshasa. Touching the trident, he is possessed by Guliga again.
- Guliga will not harm a woman, so his sister Chavundi takes over Berme and kills Rajashekhara and Kanakavathi.
What does the well mean?
It ties the two films together. In the last scene Berme vanishes into the sacred well. In Kantara (2022), Shiva’s father and later Shiva disappear at the same place. Archival footage of Rishab Shetty as those characters makes the link plain. The well is where people taken by the Daivas go.
Is there a Kantara Chapter 2?
Yes, it is confirmed. It sits between Chapter 1 and the 2022 film and will explore the well, the forest and new deities. No release date has been given.
