The short answer
- No official budget has been published. Producer Namit Malhotra has said he does not know the final number.
- Part 1 alone: press reports say about Rs 835 crore, which would make it India’s most expensive film.
- Both parts: reports quote about Rs 4,000 crore, which includes promotion and other costs, while another report puts the two parts at about Rs 1,600 crore (Rs 900 crore plus Rs 700 crore) before print and advertising.
These numbers do not agree, so treat all of them as reported, not confirmed.
Budget is not the number a film must earn
A film’s cost is what the producers spend. The India net collection that trade trackers publish is what ticket buyers paid after tax, and the producers keep only a share of that, with the rest going to cinemas and distributors. Overseas, satellite, streaming and music rights are separate income. So “Rs 835 crore budget” does not mean “Rs 835 crore net needed”. We will not publish a hit or flop verdict until the box office is in and we can show our working.
