Spoiler warning: this page gives away the plot and the ending of Drishyam 3 (Malayalam, released 21 May 2026, directed by Jeethu Joseph, starring Mohanlal). It also refers to the events of Drishyam and Drishyam 2.

The short answer

Drishyam 3 ends with Georgekutty offering to surrender to the police. He does it on his own terms, accompanied by his lawyer, Advocate Renuka, and with conditions about his family’s safety. The twist behind it is that the attack on his daughter Anju, which looked like the culmination of a plot against him, was actually staged by Georgekutty himself to misdirect the investigation and protect her, with the police officer Sahadevan framed for the act.

In a post-credits scene, as his surrender is broadcast, Geetha, the mother of the boy whose death started the series, is still not satisfied and wants Anju to face justice too. That rattles Prabhakar, her husband.

Five years after Drishyam 2

Georgekutty has turned his own past into a successful film and is trying to move on. Two journalists, Yami and Rony, are looking into whether the film is based on real events, in particular the death of Varun. Georgekutty denies any connection. A couple, Jose and Mary, ask his forgiveness for past wrongdoing; he tells them Jose did nothing wrong and helps them financially.

Jose becomes a trusted friend. At home, Georgekutty and Rani look for a marriage proposal for Anju through the broker Mathayi, but each promising match is disrupted by anonymous calls.

The mystery of the calls and the pit

  • Who is sabotaging the proposals? With help from a retired policeman, Suresh Babu, Georgekutty traces the calls to Rajan and his wife Shanthi. Rajan, a policeman suspended earlier for helping Georgekutty, lost his job prospects, his daughter’s schooling was disrupted and she attempted suicide, leaving her unable to speak. He feels Georgekutty abandoned him. His resentment is real, but he is not the film’s main antagonist.
  • The pit. Rani sees a stranger near the plantation. Georgekutty discovers that a pit has been dug and refilled, and he is watched while investigating.

The real plot against him

  1. Sahadevan. The suspended police officer, now unstable and desperate for money, is working with his daughter, the journalist Yami, to get Georgekutty arrested. He gets Anju’s medical records by force from her psychiatrist Dr Ranjini and intimidates Pathrose to get information on the unidentified skeleton used in the original cover-up. His activities are reported to the inspector general of police, Thomas Bastin, and Sahadevan is questioned and ordered arrested.
  2. Prabhakar and Bastin. Prabhakar, Varun’s father, has been told that his wife Geetha, living in the United States, is severely depressed after Varun’s funeral and the unresolved circumstances of his death. Resenting Georgekutty’s freedom, Prabhakar hired Sahadevan and asks Bastin to help gather evidence and reopen the case.
  3. The marriage proposal as a trap. Prabhakar has arranged a match for Anju with Avira, a businessman in the UAE whose financial problems he solved to secure his co-operation, and he has influenced brokers to push it.
  4. The staged crime. The plan is to drug Anju and make it look as if she caused Avira’s death, backed by faked psychiatric records claiming she has “Sexual Aversion Syndrome”, which makes her violent when approached. This is meant to link the incident to Varun’s death and convict both Georgekutty and Anju.
  5. Things go wrong. Sahadevan deviates from the plan. During the staged encounter Anju wakes up unexpectedly, panic follows, Sahadevan injures her and flees, apparently with Avira.
  6. Georgekutty strikes back. He arrives, works out the pit was meant to hide Avira’s body, and with his brother-in-law Rajesh mobilises local support to stop further concealment. With Jose, he finds Sahadevan, who is beaten and wounded with a dagger and forced to record a confession implicating Prabhakar and Bastin.

The ending, step by step

  1. Georgekutty offers to surrender to the police, with Advocate Renuka by his side, setting conditions about his family’s safety.
  2. Renuka then learns the twist: it was Georgekutty himself who attacked Anju, to misdirect the investigation and protect her from outside threats. Sahadevan is framed for it.
  3. In the post-credits scene, as the surrender is broadcast, Geetha is still not satisfied and wants Anju to face justice as well, which alarms Prabhakar.

What the ending means

For two films, Georgekutty’s skill has been to stay one step ahead of the law. This film flips it: he gives himself up on terms that protect everybody else, and the price of the final victory is having hurt his own daughter to keep her safe. It makes him morally murkier, since the film makes no pretence that his methods are clean.

The post-credits scene makes clear that surrender does not end the story: someone else’s grief is still looking for an answer.

The film’s director has said that Drishyam 3 would not necessarily conclude the story, though he later said he was trying to end the series.

Everyone’s fate at the end

  • Georgekutty: offering to surrender.
  • Anju: injured; protected by her father’s plan.
  • Sahadevan: beaten, wounded, forced to confess, and framed for the attack on Anju.
  • Prabhakar and IG Thomas Bastin: exposed by the recorded confession.
  • Geetha: still demanding that Anju face justice.
  • Rajan: the source of the anonymous calls, driven by resentment.
